In August 1998 I visited Portugal, and my good friend Carlos Oliveira invited me on to his radio programme, broadcast on Rádio Universidade 104.3, Vila Real, on the 7th August 1998.
Three days later I was back on Carlos’s show and ended up presenting most of it!
In my early teens I spent hours in my bedroom with my record player and tape recorder, making extremly amateur, never-to-be-broadcast, radio programmes… This is one of two recordings that have survived from that period, recorded around midnight on Friday 14th February 1986…
My school friend David Cotter often joined me (his is the first voice on this recording – where are you now David?). George Michael’s A Different Corner was Number One from the 19th April to the 19th May 1986, so this recording comes from that period…
