September 2008 - Back to School

Dear Teacher,

The school year is about to begin - I hope you all feel refreshed after the summer break.

The Tune Into English Roadshow is currently preparing its Autumn schedule, and I would be delighted to visit your school for this, or indeed for Tune Into Ireland. Many schools will be receiving a letter in the coming weeks with a Tune Into English poster - you can access this by clicking on
www.tuneintoenglish.com/lettera_sett08.doc

This month, as always, there are some exciting new additions to the Downloadable Worksheets section of the Teachers’ Area of www.tuneintoenglish.com - thank you to all those who have sent me a worksheet - I look forward to receiving even more.

Appropriately the first addition is September by Earth, Wind and Fire, submitted by Mena Bianco from Giugliano. The second addition is Deep Purple’s Hush (ideal for essential classroom language at the beginning of the year!), submitted by Claudia Cantaluppi from Como, while the third is an excellent worksheet with four different activities for The BeatlesLucy In The Sky With Diamonds, submitted by Roy Boardman. Many of you (especially those in Campania) will be familiar with Roy’s work, and in the coming months he will be organising a special Teacher Training session on exploiting songs - for further details you can contact him at the email address on the worksheet.

The Karaoke section of the website continues to grow, with over 1,300 songs including all those mentioned in this newsletter, as well as Wake Me Up When September Ends by Green Day and A Lonely September by The Plain White T’s - why not organise a classroom singing session with your students to ease them into the new year?

Finally, thank you to all those teachers in the Scuola Superiore di I° Grado who adopted Team Up, published by ELI, making it Italy’s most successful new title in 2008. You can read further details about the course on the Teachers’ Area of the site.

I look forward to meeting you and your students in the coming months,

Best wishes, and indeed Buon Lavoro!

Fergal
