March 2010 – Tune Into Ireland, St. Patrick's Day, Milan

Dear Teacher,TuneIreland10

To celebrate St. Patrick’s Day there will be a special presentation of Tune Into Ireland-A Cultural Journey Through Music in Milan on March 17th at 4.30 p.m. In association with Tourism Ireland, who will be providing spot prizes and refreshments, the venue is Auditorium Cinema Teatro Don Bosco, Via Tonale 19 (Metro Sondrio) and all are welcome! Come and raise a glass to Ireland’s patron saint and have your photo taken with him – you can read more about this 90 minute presentation on www.tuneintoenglish.com.

The first addition to this month’s downloadable worksheets section is appropriately by Irish band The Cranberries, who return to Italy this month. Submitted by Mena Bianco from Naples, Ode To My Family features a useful tense review.

On the same theme, March 19th is Father’s Day here in Italy. Caterina Ziliani from Milan contributed Alain Clark’s Father & Friend.

The third new worksheet is R.E.M.’s Everybody Hurts, re-recorded last month by over 20 artists to raise money for the victims of the Haiti earthquake – the Helping Haiti version sold 453,000 copies in the UK in its first week of release.

In an exciting new collaboration with Speak Up, you can now sing along with the UK Top 10 Charts, updated weekly – just click on the link on the home page of Tune Into English, or on www.speakuponline.it.
There are over 5,400 songs in the Karaoke section, including songs from Irish artists such as U2, Sinéad O’Connor, The Boomtown Rats, The Corrs, The Dubliners, The Cranberries, Dolores O’Riordan, Damien Rice, The Pogues, Thin Lizzy, The Swell Season, Westlife, Boyzone, Ronan Keating, Bell X1, Snow Patrol, The Coronas and The Script. The Tune Into Ireland page also contains a link to Irish Karaoke, featuring a selection of songs in Gaeilge, for those of you interested in practicing the official language of the Emerald Isle.

Teachers at the Scuola Superiore di Primo Grado may be interested in Team Up in English, one of Italy’s most successful courses, with songs written by Tune Into English. ELI, the publishers, working with Eco-Libris, will plant a tree for every copy of the first level sold this year – you can read more about this on the Teachers’ Area of the website.

The Tune Into English Roadshow is continuing its tour, and has featured in some local newspapers in the last few months. You can see the articles by clicking on the Press link on the Roadshow page of the website. Remember that you can see photos and videos from over 100 shows on Tune Into English’s facebook page – there is a link to this on the home page of the Tune Into English website.

Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig, a Very Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you all – I hope to see you at Auditorium Cinema Teatro Don Bosco!

Best wishes,

Fergal Kavanagh
