October 2008 - October, and the trees are stripped bare...

Dear Teacher,

As we settle in to the autumn, we have three exciting new additions to
the Downloadable Worksheets section of the Teachers' Area of www.tuneintoenglish.com

The first, written by Mena Bianco from Giugliano, is October by U2 - this excellent worksheet also features a text comparison with the poem of the same name by Patrick Kavanagh. The second addition is the wonderful Hey There Delilah by The Plain White T’s, submitted by Caterina Ziliani from Milan, while the third is ideal for the Hallowe’en celebrations at the end of this month - the comprehension questions on the worksheet for Kate Nash’s Skeleton Song were submitted by Giovanni Dettori from Madrid, Spain. Don’t forget that the worksheet for Michael Jackson’s Thriller is also online.

The Tune Into English Roadshow has been completely updated, and has begun its Autumn tour. I would be delighted to visit your school for this, or indeed for Tune Into Ireland.

On the occasion of the Giornata Europea delle Lingue on the 26th  September, the official Conference Proceedings of the Neuroscience and Foreign Language Learning conference, held in February 2007, were presented. You can read Tune Into English’s contribution on the Teacher Training sessions page of the website - scroll down to Press Play and Tune Into English .

The Karaoke section of the website continues to grow, with over 1,300 songs - appropriately it also includes October by Evanescence.

I look forward to meeting you and your students in the coming months.

Best wishes, and have a good weekend.

Fergal
