December 2008 -
60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Dear Teacher,

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights turns 60 on 10th  December 2008.

Two of this month’s additions to the Downloadable Worksheets section of the Teachers' Area of www.tuneintoenglish.com acknowledge this important occasion - the first is a song dedicated to Aung San Suu Kyi, the Myanmar (ex-Burma) leader of the National League for Democracy. The worksheet for the U2 song Walk On was submitted by Mena Bianco from Giugliano. The second worksheet is Tracy Chapman’s Across The Lines, about a racial incident, submitted by Auxiliadora Pérez Vides of the University of Huelva, Spain.

Christmas is coming and the goose is getting fat. The third worksheet celebrates the festive season with the American comedy classic Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer, performed by Dr. Elmo, and submitted by Carrie Elise Rodella from International English in Capaccio (SA). There are three other Christmas worksheets on the Downloadable Worksheets section of the site, each marked with a candle.

All of these festive songs are featured in the special Christmas Karaoke area of the Tune Into English website, featuring over 75 festive favourites, so why not have a special lesson on Christmas songs?

Thank you to all of you who hosted the Tune Into English Roadshow in 2008. I am currently planning my calendar for 2009, and would be delighted to come to your school.

I would like to wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a peaceful and prosperous New Year.

Best wishes,

Fergal Kavanagh
