May 2010 – The Tune Into English T-shirt – now available!

Dear Teacher,

With the summer approaching, the Tune Into English T-shirt is an essential addition to your and your students’ wardrobe.  Made of high quality material and featuring the Tune logo, it is available at a special reduced price for the month of May – click on the link on www.tuneintoenglish.com.

Appropriately, the first of this month’s additions to the downloadable worksheets on the Teachers’ Area of the site is David Bowie’s Fashion. This is taken from Team Up In English, ELI’s successful course for the Scuola Superiore di I° Grado.

Telephone, the recent best-selling single by Lady Gaga (featuring Beyoncé), was submitted by Albarosa Crinò, Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto (ME). An extremely popular song with students, this worksheet features a gap fill and tense review.

This month’s third new worksheet comes from regular contributor Mena Bianco (Naples) – Absolutely Positively by Anastacia is ideal for presenting and reviewing Adverb Formation.

Mena has also produced a Self-Study worksheet for Amy Macdonald’s This Is The Life, which is published in this month’s Speak Up – you can access it on www.speakuponline.it or on the Students’ Area of the Tune Into English website.
Also in collaboration with Speak Up, you can sing along with the UK Top 10 Charts – updated weekly, there is a link on the Tune Home page, or on the Speak Up site.
The Karaoke page of Tune Into English now features over 6,300 songs, including T-shirt by Shontelle.

Teachers at the Scuola Superiore di I° Grado may be interested in Up To You!, ELI’s holiday book, consolidating and revising vocabulary and structures presented during the year. Written by Kavanagh and Morris, you can read more about this by following the link on www.tuneintoenglish.com.

Tune Into English has three new publications this month. You can read A Game & Song for the Present Simple Yes/No Question Forms in the current edition of the HLT magazine – follow the link on the Media/Articles (Our Theory) page of the Tune Into English site;  the University of Huelva’s publication “Teaching Ireland: New Didactic Approaches to Cultural, Linguistic and Literary Issues” features Tune Into Ireland: Teaching Ireland through Music, and the IATEFL 2009 Cardiff Conference Selections includes Using music to enhance language teaching.

The Tune Into English Roadshow is in the final month of its tour, thank you to all who have hosted the Roadshow this year, and for all the wonderful feedback I have had. You can read the results of a questionnaire prepared by the ISIS Einaudi in Dalmine (BG) on the Comments page of the site. Also, on my recent trip to Spain I was able to collect a plaque I had inadvertently left in a hotel room last year – gracias to the IES Don Bosco in Valverde del Camino for this wonderful memento – there is a photo of this on the 2009 Comments page (scroll down to January). Remember also that there are photos and videos from over 150 shows on Tune Into English’s facebook page.

Good luck with the last month of term!

Best wishes,

Fergal Kavanagh
