May 2013 – A-B-C, it's easy as Do-Re-Mi – our 200th worksheet!

Dear Teacher,

This month sees the publication of the 200th worksheet on www.tuneintoenglish.com! This would not have been possible without all the high quality contributions submitted by teachers from 8 different countries – thank you all for helping Tune Into English become the essential resource for learning English through pop music!

Thank you also to American artist Ryan Spring Dooley who allowed us publish one of his paintings to celebrate – this is featured in this month’s Speak Up magazine. (You can see a facebook album of over four years of Speak Up advertising here).

The first of this month’s additions to the Downloadable Worksheets section of the Teachers’ Area has been specially written for the occasion – ABC by The Jackson 5 could be considered our theme song (“it’s easy as Do-Re-Mi!”), and on a personal (and perhaps prophetic?) level was Number One on the day I was born! Contributed by Mena Bianco from Naples, this is her 42nd worksheet on the site.

Laura Casolero from Grumo Nevano has sent in this month’s second addition – it is her 21st worksheet, based on The EurythmicsI Saved The World Today.

The final new worksheet is by Maria Gulczynska in Ancona, her 6th contribution. Blood Makes Noise by Suzanne Vega is ideal for those studying Medical English.

With the end of the school year in sight you may be looking for a Teacher Training course this summer. The two-week Staging Music & TV in ELT course perfectly reflects Tune’s philosophy and is also held in my hometown of Cork! You can read full details here.

The Tune Into English Roadshow is in the final month of its tour, with shows at Treviso prison scheduled for the 3rd, and shows in Spain in the final week of May. The biggest ever Roadshow was held in Portici on the 24th April, with 500 students! You can watch an extract here. Thank you to all those who have hosted the show – you can read a selection of comments on the website, and see photographs from over six years of the Roadshow on the Tune facebook page.

As temperatures rise the Tune Into English T-shirt is an essential addition to your and your students’ wardrobe.  Made of high quality material and featuring the Tune logo, it is available exclusively through this newsletter at a special reduced price for the month of May – click here to avail of this limited offer. All orders come with a free badge!

The Karaoke page of Tune Into English now features over 8,500 songs. You can sing along with the UK Top 10 Charts on the Speak Up site – updated weekly, there is a link on the Tune Home page too.

Why not film your students singing in the classroom? We would be delighted to publish the video!

Don’t forget to tell your students about the Tune Into English Drawing Competition – we have received some wonderful pictures, and look forward to receiving more of your students’ (or even your own!) masterpieces!

Teachers at the Scuola Superiore di I° Grado may be interested in Up To You!, ELI’s holiday book, consolidating and revising vocabulary and structures presented during the year. Written by Kavanagh and Morris, you can read more about this here.

Finally, I was a guest on chat show Fabiodisera on Luna TV on the 17th April – you will be able to see this on youtube in the coming weeks – keep an eye on facebook!

Best wishes,

Fergal Kavanagh
