February 2013 – The Beatles – Number One 50 Years Ago!

Dear Teacher,

To celebrate The Beatles’ first ever Number One five decades ago we are proud to publish a 28-page project prepared by Teacher Trainer Giulio Cestari, based in Dalmine (BG). Entitled “An integrated technical-cultural-linguistic experience in Modern Music History”, this project consists of six lessons and is based on a CLIL project written for the Cà Foscari University in Venice.

There are also two new Beatles song worksheets on the Downloadable Worksheets section of the Teachers’ Area of www.tuneintoenglish.com. The first, also featured in the CLIL project, is Penny Lane – written by Tina Lorenzani, Arconate (MI), this focuses on occupations.

The Fab Four’s first ever chart topper was Please Please Me. Mena Bianco from Naples contributed activities based on opposites and colours for emotions.

Thank you to all teachers who have submitted worksheets – I look forward to receiving your contributions in the future.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the twinning of Marcallo con Casone (MI) with Cork’s Macroom I will be presenting a revamped version of Tune Into Ireland in the Italian town’s Scuola Media on the 6th February. That evening, at 8.30 p.m., I will be presenting an American edition of the Roadshow at the English Club in Magenta – all are welcome to attend: contact the club for full details. Thank you to all those who have hosted the show – you can see a large selection of videos and photographs on facebook.

The Karaoke page of Tune Into English now features over 8,400 songs, including over 100 Beatles songs! You can sing along with the UK Top 10 Charts on the Speak Up site – updated weekly, there is a link on the Tune Home page too.

Why not film your students singing in the classroom? We would be delighted to publish the video!

Don’t forget to tell your students about the Tune Into English Drawing Competition – we have already received some wonderful Beatles drawings, and look forward to receiving more of your students’ (or even your own!) masterpieces! (and not just of the Fab Four!!!)

New Team Up in English, the ideal course for the Scuola Secondaria di I° Grado, published by ELI with songs by Tune Into English, is now available – click here for more details.

Finally, don’t forget that the 14th February is St. Valentine’s Day – All You Need Is Love!

Best wishes,

Fergal Kavanagh
