January 2010 – It’s A Celebration!

Dear Teacher,champagne

The festive season is over, but Tune Into English is continuing the celebrations – this month we publish our 100th worksheet!  This would not have been possible without all the high quality contributions submitted by teachers from 6 different countries – thank you all very much for helping Tune Into English become the essential resource for learning English through pop music!

The first of this month’s additions to the Downloadable Worksheets section of the Teachers’ Area of www.tuneintoenglish.com is, appropriately, Celebration by Kool & The Gang. This was written by Gary Friel in Bari and Jennie Humphries in Naples, and features a crossword and a phonetics exercise.

In the hope of not being too prophetic in the coming months, Mena Bianco of Naples has submitted a low level worksheet for Gene Kelly’s Singin’ In The Rain, which is also suitable for Primary students.

The final new addition this month takes us to the Sunshine State – Caterina Ziliani from Milan’s worksheet for Hotel Califonia by The Eagles practises the Past Simple, with a visual vocabulary exercise.

The Tune Into English Roadshow has its first show of 2010 in Bologna on Monday – I look forward to meeting you and your students in the next few months. A very special thank you to the students of the 3° Circolo, Galatina (LE) for the wonderful video they created following the Tune Into English Roadshow for Kids at their school in November. You can see it on the Comments page (scroll down to November 9th) or on the Primary Roadshow page. It is also on Tune Into English’s facebook page, along with photos and videos of almost 100 shows – there is a link to this, as well as our new twitter account, on the home page of the Tune Into English website.

Those of you in Reggio Emilia (and beyond!) are welcome to attend the Teacher Training session Using Music to Enhance Language Learning on 10th February – full details can be found on the website.

The karaoke page now features over 4,800 songs, including all of those mentioned in this newsletter, as well as all songs in this week’s UK Top 10 charts – don’t forget you can check the charts out in the Student’s Area. The site also features a bookstore with over 60 titles for those of you looking for alternative reading material for your students, as well as details of language courses abroad.

Due to touring commitments there will be no newsletter in February, but we will return in March!

I would like to wish you and your families a very peaceful and prosperous New Year.

Best wishes,

Fergal Kavanagh
